Holidays spent in the twin towns of 1770 and Agnes Water on Queensland’s Discovery Coast provide a laid back old fashioned family holiday that will remind you of the great times you had with your family when you were young. You can take the family boat along and go fishing in the estuaries or the ocean, go mud crabbing, diving and snorkelling or even go for a surf on Queensland’s northern most surfing beach. There are also day tips to Lady Musgrave Island on the Great Barrier Reef or trips to the famous Bustard Head Lighthouse on an amphibious Larc.
There is lots of holiday accommodation in 1770 that includes holiday homes, cabins and apartment style resorts. Some of these are right on the dunes behind the beachfront and the standard is excellent. Other 1770 accommodation is situated on the hill overlooking the estuary and the ocean to the north. There is a marina, boat ramp facilities, a great nine hole golf course and great shopping facilities. Most of the shopping is at the Agnes Water end of town and includes banking facilities and a supermarket.
The local hotel is really popular with holiday makers and serves excellent meals and is the hub of local social life. The town also has a motel and a beachfront caravan park. At the 1770 end of town there is a caravan park and a general store. Agnes Water also has an excellent backpacker hostel. Some of the local hinterland is extremely beautiful and places like the Eurimbula National Park provide both excellent camping facilities and a great destination for a family picnic. The wildlife here is fantastic with spectacular birds and plenty of kangaroos and the like. The fishing is also really good and beach fishing, estuary fishing or reef fishing on the local shoals is very productive. Great table and sporting fish like barramundi, coral trout and red emperor are common. If you don’t have your own boat, you can join one of the local fishing charters.
All in all, the towns of 1770 and Agnes Water provide some of the best and most varied holiday activities you can imagine.
