| Itinerary | ||
| Day 1: Cairns
– Cooktown Depart Cairns at 7.00am. Travel north through the Daintree rainforest, stopping at beautiful Cape Tribulation. Continue along the famous Bloomfield Track (weather permitting). Stop at the quaint Lion’s Den Hotel, before continuing past the eerie Black Mountain to Cooktown. Tour the sights of historic Cooktown including views from Grassy Hill. Hotel: Sovereign Resort Hotel. Day 2: Jowalbinna Travel through the agricultural district of Lakeland with the opportunity to buy locally grown coffee. Visit the Quinkan Cultural Centre then on to Jowalbinna, an epicentre of Aboriginal rock art. Investigate the lives of the original inhabitants then enjoy a creek swim. This evening chat around a bush campfire. Hotel: Cabins at Jowalbinna, share facilities. |
Day 3: Lakefield National Park Explore Lakefield National Park, the second largest in Queensland at 537,000 hectares, and see waterlily covered billabongs, birdlife and wildlife. Hotel: Lotus Bird Lodge. Day 4: Moreton Visit the Telegraph Station and now working cattle station of Musgrave then cross the Great Dividing Range to visit Coen. Cross the sandbanks of the Archer & Wenlock Rivers with time for exploring, bushwalking or simply relaxing. Hotel: Tented cabins with linen provided, share facilities, Moreton. Day 5: Bamaga Our 4WD adventure is at its best today as we travel along the famous Telegraph Track. Enjoy lunch and time to swim in the pristine waters of Fruit Bat Falls. Later, cross the mighty Jardine River to Bamaga. Hotel: Resort Bamaga. 2 nights. |
Day 6: Cape York We visit the beautiful Lockerbie Scrub, an isolated pocket of monsoon rainforest, on our way to historic Somerset. This afternoon walk to the very top of Australia, Cape York! Day 7: Depart Cairns Cruise across to Thursday Island, capital of the Torres Strait Islands. Enjoy a guided tour of the island. We are transferred by ferry to Horn Island. Enjoy spectacular views of the Great Barrier Reef as we fly to Cairns, arriving at approximately 5.30pm.
