Itinerary
Day 1: Cairns – Chillagoe
Depart Cairns at 7.00am. We wind our way up the Kuranda Range to Mareeba and beyond. Visit Tyrconnell Historic Gold Mine and see a demonstration of its ore-crushing battery. On to Chillagoe, where we will tour its limestone caves.
Hotel: Chillagoe Eco Lodge. L - D

Day 2: Georgetown
Board the Savannahlander train as it tracks the Ootann Road into Brahman cattle country. Lunch along the way in this vast landscape provides a ‘fair dinkum’ Aussie day. We head west across the Newcastle Range to Georgetown.
Hotel: Latara Resort. B - L - D

Day 3: Karumba
Relax on the shore of Croydon’s Lake Belmore then continue on to Karumba on the Gulf of Carpentaria. This afternoon take a leisurely cruise to enjoy a spectacular Gulf sunset.
Hotel: Matilda’s End. B

Day 4: Adel’s Grove
Visit Burke & Wills Camp #119, the most northerly campsite of the
ill-fated expedition of 1860. Cross the ‘Plains of Promise’ to Leichhardt Falls and Burketown. On to Adel’s Grove where we spend the next 2 nights in the glorious outback.
Hotel: Tented cabins with linen provided, share facilities, Adel's Grove, 2 nights. B - L - D

Day 5: Lawn Hill National Park
Relax in Lawn Hill National Park. The gorge is a haven for wildlife and is a birdwatcher’s paradise. Take a swim or paddle a canoe up the gorge (optional). B - L - D

Day 6: Normanton
Visit Riversleigh Fossil Fields. After lunch at Gregory and a short break at remote Burke & Wills Roadhouse travel to Normanton to see its famous landmarks, including the Purple Pub, historic Burns Philp General Store and its famous Victorian architecture Railway Station.

Day 7: Cobbold Gorge
Board the historic Gulflander RM93 train, for a ride through the savannah landscape to Critters Camp. On to
Black Bull Siding to visit the gold mining town of Croydon and its Historic Precinct before arriving in Cobbold Gorge, a Savannah Guides Station, via Georgetown and Forsayth.

Day 8: Undara Lava Tubes
Cruise on Cobbold Gorge’s beautiful and secluded waterway surrounded by spectacular carved Hampstead sandstone, 135 million years old. Then travel on to the famous Undara Lava Tubes, a Savannah Guides Station. Tonight enjoy campfire entertainment before retiring in restored antique railway carriages.
Hotel: Undara Lava Lodge, share facilities. B - L - D

Day 9: Depart Cairns
Enjoy breakfast in the Australian bush. Tour the fascinating 190,000 year old Lava Tubes and visit Ravenshoe for lunch before Mt Hypipamee National Park and the Curtain Fig Tree. We descend to the lush coastal plain and return to Cairns, arriving at approximately 6.00pm. B
