Queenslander Class is a premium, all-inclusive* style of travel featuring comfortable, twin-berth accommodation; fine dining in an exclusive restaurant car; and a host of special touches for a memorable experience. Queenslander Class offers an experience which is more than just a train journey, It's a first-hand glimpse into the state's heritage, culture, landscape and cuisine set against a backdrop of superb dining, first-class accommodation & exceptional onboard service. 'The Sunlander' also offers standard single, twin and triple berth sleeping accommodation and seats, all with access to tasty meals and refreshing drinks. *Alcohol is sold separately. |
Passengers travelling Queenslander Class enjoy first class accommodation, fine dining in an exclusive restaurant car, entertainment, local commentary and a host of special touches such as comfy bathrobes and slippers.
First Class berths accommodate two people with fold-down beds complete with fresh linen, a washbasin, wardrobe and much more.
The dining experience is a highlight for Queenslander Class, with all passengers enjoying sumptuous three-course meals featuring the freshest local produce. The seafood platter served between Townsville and Cairns is undoubtedly the culinary highpoint of the journey for seafood lovers.
The other styles of travel on 'The Sunlander' include single, double and triple berths and seats. All passengers have access to club and buffet cars for meals and refreshments, and a range of facilities.
The Sunlander - Onboard
The Sunlander shines bright as one of Australia’s longest running and most endearing rail journeys. It’s a relaxing, comfortable journey that winds its way between the cosmopolitan city of Brisbane and the tropical city of Cairns. The scenery along the journey is breathtaking with views ranging from city structures, to the rugged farming life in rural Queensland, to the azure colours of the ocean, to the tropical green of the northern rainforests.
Facilities
The Sunlander provides the following facilities and services: drinking fountains, restrooms, showers for sleeping berths, air-conditioning, food & beverage services providing meals, refreshments, snacks, confectionary and a liquor service. Onboard entertainment is also provided for you with movies shown in the Club Car.
Only cash (AUD $), Visa and Mastercard credit cards are accepted on board the trains. Personal and travellers cheques are not accepted and EFTPOS is not available. Guests are advised to bring cash for the journey to buy drinks and meals if they do not hold any of these cards.
Accommodation- First Class Travel
There are two first class options for travel: Roomettes and Twinettes.
A Roomette has a single berth, while a Twinette has two berths. Both cabins have a wardrobe, AC 240V power point, washbasin with mirror and drinking glasses. Each berth has a reading light, pillow with slip, top and bottom sheet and a towel. All Twinettes face the direction of travel. Roomettes have a mix of forward and reverse facing cabins.

- Economy Class Travel
There are two Economy Class options for travel: Seating Carriages and Berths.
The Seating Carriages are open saloon cars with overhead luggage racks for hand luggage. The seats are arranged in two rows of two seats. You can book an aisle or window seat depending on your preference and availability. All seats face the direction of travel. Please bring your own pillows and blankets if you require them. A fold down table and foot rest are provided for your comfort.
The Economy Berths are a three berth cabin for persons of the same gender. A whole cabin may be reserved for a group of mixed genders. By day the cabin is a sofa which provides seating for passengers. The sofa then converts to three beds for night time. All cabins face the direction of travel and contain a table, AC 240V power point, washbasin with mirror and drinking glasses. A reading light, pillow with slip, lower sheet and blanket are provided for each berth.

Takeaway style meals and snacks are available all day from the Club Car to take back to your seat or eat in the social atmosphere of the Club Car. - Buffet Car
Meals from the Buffet Car are ordered and freshly prepared upon requested between the service hours. - Special Dietary Meals
A selection of meals is available to passengers with special dietary requirements.
