Because Southport lies at the estuary of the Nerang River, it fronts onto a beautiful waterway known as the Southport Broadwater. This is the major waterway on the Gold Coast for boating and marine activities. Southport is also the commercial center of the Gold Coast and consequently has some of the best shopping and dining available.
The Southport Spit is the center of holiday activities on the gold Coast. It is home to the world famous Seaworld theme park and some of the best holiday accommodation on the gold Coast. Here you will find Seaworld Nara resort which is fantastic for family accommodation, the Sheraton Mirage resort which is a fantastic five star beachfront resort and also Australia’s only six star hotel, the Palazzo Versace. The spit is also the home of the boating industry on the Gold coast, with numerous marina’s, shopping plaza’s, fishing charter boats, restaurants and cafes. The ocean side of the Spit has a fantastic beach which is basically the extension of the Surfers Paradise beach and Main Beach. It is very popular with both the kite surfers and the board riders on the Gold Coast.
On the inshore side of the Southport Broadwater lies the commercial center and a host of Southport accommodation resorts and hotels. There are many apartment style resorts. These are nearly all located just to the north of the commercial center in waterfront locations close to all the facilities you will need to create a fantastic holiday destination, especially if you are planning a holiday with kids.
Southport, although not as popular as Surfers Paradise as a holiday destination, has everything you will need to make your holiday a raging success.
