The Sunshine Coast is one Australia’s best holiday destinations for family’s and tourists. It is located in south east Queensland about one hours drive north of Brisbane. The Sunshine Coast is made up from a number of beachfront suburbs that each have their own tourist attractions and holiday accommodation. There are a number of other tourist attractions in the hinterland like Australia Zoo, Underwater World, whale watching, the Eumundi Markets and the Maleny district.

Caloundra lies at the southern end of the Sunshine Coast. It has the advantage of having both ocean surf beaches and calm water beaches on the protected Pumicestone Passage. This means that everyone in the family is happy. The shopping centers here are comprehensive and there are plenty of cafes and restaurants. Caloundra also has lots of beachfront accommodation which is to found on each of the many beaches in the Caloundra area. As you travel north towards Mooloolaba you will travel through Kawana which is mainly a commercial area with large shopping plazas.

Mooloolaba is situated at the mouth of the Mooloolah River which has been transformed into a maze of canal subdivsions and marina’s. At the river mouth, which is protected from the ocean swells by Point Cartwright you will find the southern end of Mooloolaba beach. There are now a number of beautiful resorts that have been built right on the esplanade here and the local restaurant strip spills out onto the footpaths providing great alfresco dining. Some of the accommodation here is among the best luxury accommodation on the Sunshine Coast. The main beaches here are always very popular with the surfing fraternity. Just to the north of Mooloolaba is Maroochydore. This is the commercial center for the region and also has lots of great holiday accommodation, most of which is close to either the beach or the Maroochy River estuary which is great for boating or fishing.

The Sunshine Coast airport is just north of Maroochydore and it has regular holiday flights direct from southern capitals. It is close to the beach at Marcoola and the two great golfing resorts of Novotel Twin waters and the Hyatt Coolum are situated close by. Noosa is probable Australia’s most up market beachside tourist destination. It lies on the banks of the Noosa River and alongside the famous Noosa National Park. The beach here is an icon on the Sunshine coast and the point surf on the headland is famous when big swells are running. Hastings Street is the ultimate people watching precinct with expensive accommodation and chic restaurants and cafes.

Rainbow Beach is at the northern end of the Sunshine Coast and is the jumping off point for Fraser Island. The beaches here are truly fantastic and there are some great beachfront resorts. The northern beach is open to four wheel drive vehicles to allow access to the Fraser Island vehicle barge from Inskip Point.
