Townsville Holidays

Cruising to Magnetic Island

A Townsville holiday will be long remembered for the multitude of great family activities that can be experienced here. Townsville itself is a thriving coastal city with lots of holiday activities to experience. Townsville holiday accommodation is freely available, both in the city and on nearby Magnetic Island which is connected to the mainland by a regular ferry service for both cars and passengers. Not far offshore lies the Great Barrier Reef and the region is famous for its cruises, fishing and diving tours. Trips to the reef are also available.

On the mainland there is plenty to see and do. The Strand, which is the esplanade along the Townsville beachfront is a fantastic facility. There is an Olympic size swimming pool, patrolled beach with stinger nets during the wet season. There is also a huge tide filled salt water pool at the northern end of the Strand as well as a state of the art water park to help entertain the kids. There are two piers, both with fishing facilities and several great restaurants all situated facing the Strand or on the seawall overlooking the ocean. There is no better place for breakfast or dinner on your Townsville holiday.

Magnetic Island is a great place to stay or visit during your holiday. The ferry departs regularly during the day and evening. Magnetic Island is known for its wildlife, beautiful tropical scenery with pines lining craggy boulder covered headlands and quiet bays with beautiful beaches. It is the home of Australia’s largest Koala colony. Magnetic Island has a golf course as well as a modern boat harbour and excellent luxury accommodation situated right on the oceanfront.

Back on the mainland you can join the locals in their sports loving community. Play a round of golf or go to one of the local games for either the Townsville Crocs national basketball team, the North Queensland cowboys Rugby league team or the Townsville Fury soccer team. All enjoy considerable success on the national stage and their standard is very high. There are plenty of shopping malls to help mum spend her day and also plenty of new Townsville accommodation. The Palmer Street precinct is full of new resort style apartments and hotels and a choice of fine restaurants. It has become the center of Townsville’s nightlife.

If you are looking for somewhere new for your next holiday, then this could be the time to include Townsville in your itinerary.
