The most perfect island holiday destination in Queensland is the Whitsunday's region. Located midway along the Queensland coast, the Whitsundays enjoy one of the worlds most perfect climates. The Whitsunday Islands are among Australia's most popular tourist destinations. They are a favourite among Australians and have a growing reputation and awareness among international tourists. As of early 2012 the Hayman Island resort complex has just reopened after a five month comprehensive upgrade and complete refurbisment. Daydream Island is a fantastic family holiday destination. It provides activites for the kids as well as mum and dad. Its living reef display is one of the best aquariums along the coast and there are great restaurants and kids activities. There are also excellent resorts to be found on Long Island and Brampton Island.
The city of Mackay is the largest population centre in the Whitsundays and its commercial centre. The Whitsundays area can be accessed by air from all southern and northern cities with regular flights into Mackay airport, Whitsunday airport at Proserpine or dirctly into the Great Barrier Reef airport on Hamilton Island.
