Whitsundays Holidays

The most perfect island holiday destination in Queensland is the Whitsunday's region. Located midway along the Queensland coast, the Whitsundays enjoy one of the worlds most perfect climates. It is sub tropical with a wet season during the southern hemispheres summer and a balmy dry season for the rest of the year. Perhaps the greatest of the attractions of the Whitsundays region is the magnificent island archipelago that lies just offshore. This region is known as the Whitsunday Passage and was named by Captain James Cook during his second voyage of discovery. The archipelago consists of 74 magnificent islands, each one featuring a panorama of sandy beaches, rocky headlands and pine covered ridges.

The mainland holiday centre for the Whitsundays region is the town of Airlie Beach. It is from here that the huge bare boat charter industry and the crewed day and extended sailing adventure industry operates. Airlie Beach has two huge marina's and also serves as a mainland base for ferry services that operate to the Great Barrier Reef and the island resorts in the Whitsunday passage itself. Airlie Beach has a vibrant accommodation industry and is one of the most popular places in Australia where backpackers, from around the world, congregate for a few days during their Australian adventure. There are also many fine apartment resorts which attract tourists coming to experience the comfort and ambience of the best places to stay in the region.
