The Gold Coast is one of the icons when it comes to tourist destinations in Queensland, Australia. The Gold Coast lies in Queensland’s south east corner wedged between the fantastic beaches that line its eastern perimeter and the mountains and rainforests of the Gold Coast Hinterland to the west. The region has also become famous for its theme parks and as a family holiday destination without equal. Seaworld, Dream World, Movie World, Wet n Wild waterpark, The Great Australian Outback Spectacular and the Currumbin Wildlife sanctuary help make the Gold Coast the leader in family entertainment that it is. The eastern seaboard is lined with one perfect beach after another and the supply of high rise apartment buildings within easy walking distance seems to be almost endless.
Starting from the southern end, the Gold Coast consists of a number of beachfront suburbs. The southernmost is Coolangatta. The Tweed River lies on its southern boundary and there are beautiful beaches to the east and is the best place to access the beautiful Gold Coast Hinterland. Coolangatta has plentiful quality accommodation within easy reach of the beach and also boasts a colorful shopping precinct and many cute cafeterias and restaurants. As you travel north you pass through Tugun, Currumbin, Mermaid beach, and Burleigh Heads all of which are beachfront retreats with excellent accommodation and superb surfing beaches.
