Itinerary

Day 1: Cairns – Cooktown
Depart Cairns at 7.00 am with your Driver’s guide in an air-conditioned 4WD vehicle. We travel north along the Captain Cook Highway, one of Australia’s most scenic coastal drives towards the World Heritage Listed Daintree National Park, which contains the highest number of plant and animal species that are rare or threatened by extinction. Your guide will enlighten your journey with incredible stories and history as you continue on the 4WD-only Bloomfield Track through some of the most incredible scenery in the country. Crossing rivers and climbing mountain ranges. We stop for lunch at the famous Lion’s Den Hotel one of North Queensland’s oldest-running bush pubs. Continue to the unique geological oddity, which is Black Mountain, surrounded by mystery and spoken of in ancient Aboriginal legend. Arriving in Cooktown, have your camera ready for 360-degree panoramic views from Grassy Hill of the Coral Sea and Endeavour River.

Day 2: Cooktown – Cairns
This morning is at leisure to explore Cooktown. Visit the James Cook Museum or stroll along the shores of the Endeavour River. Or perhaps join Nugal-warra Elder, Willie Gordon, on the Rainbow Serpent Rock Art tour (own expense). Later, we travel north on the Mulligan Highway through the Palmer River Gold Mine region, the Outback of Far North Queensland. Stop for dinner in Mount Molloy (own expense) before returning to Cairns, arriving at approximately 9.30 pm.
