The Gold Coast is one of the icons when it comes to tourist destinations in Queensland, Australia. The Gold Coast lies in Queensland’s south east corner wedged between the fantastic beaches that line its eastern perimeter and the mountains and rainforests of the Gold Coast Hinterland to the west. Starting from the southern end, the Gold Coast consists of a number of beachfront suburbs. The southernmost is Coolangatta. The Tweed River lies on its southern boundary and there are beautiful beaches to the east and is the best place to access the beautiful Gold Coast Hinterland. Coolangatta has plentiful quality accommodation within easy reach of the beach and also boasts a colorful shopping precinct and many cute cafeterias and restaurants. As you travel north you pass through Tugun, Currumbin, Mermaid beach, and Burleigh Heads all of which are beachfront retreats with excellent accommodation and superb surfing beaches.
Much of the accommodation through this stretch of the Gold Coast is on the actual beachfront. Broadbeach is home to Jupiters casino and sports a great shopping area and some of the best accommodation on the Gold Coast. The Gold Coasts new convention centre also lies here. Much of the new development is taking place in this area and consequently there are some beautiful high rise Apartments available. Surfers Paradise lies just north of Broadbeach. Surfers is probably Australia’s best known tourist destination. The beach, the shopping, the cafés, the restaurants and the boutiques are second to none and the night life is legendary. The Indycar race in October races through the streets and the area becomes a party zone. Main Beach and the Southport spit area lie just to the north of Surfers and here is some of the best accommodation in the world right on one of the best beaches in the world. There is a local luxury hotel to appeal to every traveler and accommodation to suit any budget.
The Gold Coast is extremely easy to access. It has its own domestic airport at Coolangatta which has direct flights from all southern capitals. There is also an international airport in Brisbane with connecting shuttle services to the Gold Coast. Brisbane has direct flights from the pacific and USA. Coach services travelling the east coast of Australia all pass through the Gold Coast and provide another inexpensive way to access the area.
