What to expect

You'll depart Cairns at 8 a.m. and spend roughly two to three hours at Paronella Park wandering the grounds, learning about José Paronella's vision, and exploring the castle interiors and surrounding waterfalls. The drive to Herberton takes you inland; allow another two hours to stroll the village at your own pace, poking into shops, banks, and war-history exhibits that sketch Queensland's settlement story. After lunch (bring your own or eat nearby), Granite Gorge is a short drive away. Here you'll stand close to wallabies—small, rock-dwelling marsupials—and feed them by hand whilst a guide shares their behaviour and habitat.
