The Great Barrier Reef in Australia, features terrific island resorts together with many snorkelling and diving tours, that visit the largest living organism on the planet. It stretches from the tip of Cape York peninsular along the East coast of Queensland as far as Fraser Island in the South. Both can be accessed for day tours and launches operate from both Bundaberg and the town of 1770.
Also in the Bunker Group of Islands at the Southern end of the Reef you will find both Heron Island and Wilson Island which can be accessed from Gladstone on the mainland. These are both four star resorts and are noted for their diving and the quality of the resort experience that you will receive. These resorts can be accessed by launch or helicopter.
Further north you will arrive in the Whitsunday Islands. Here lie a multitude of continental islands that are home to some of the best Island resorts in Australia. Here you can experience such fabulous resorts as Hayman Island Resort, Daydream Island Resort, Hamilton Island Resort, Long Island Resort and Peppers Palm Bay Resort, Brampton Island Resort and South Molle Island Resort. These resorts range from budget through to five star and include some of the best island resorts in the world. This area can be accessed by air into either Proserpine or direct to the Great barrier Reef airport on Hamilton Island or by launch or fast catamaran from Airlie Beach. There is also a wide range of Boat & Yacht charter available with either bare boat or crewed charters being available in abundance.
Again travelling north the traveller will discover such delightful resorts as Orpheus Island Resort, Bedarra Island Resort and Dunk Island Resort. These resorts again are ranked amongst the best island resorts in Australia. They feature absolute privacy and luxury and some cater to the rich and famous seeking to escape the spotlight and recharge and relax in an idyllic location. These island resorts are accessed from either Townsville, Mission Beach or Cairns. A short distance off Cairns and accessible by launch lies the five star resort on Green Island and a little further to the north is one of the worlds leading fishing resorts at Lizard Island. This island also features fabulous accommodation and cuisine and must be booked well in advance due to its popularity. Lizard Island Resort can be accessed by air from Cairns. Diving is one of the most popular activities on the great barrier Reef and there are many specialist companies that can offer a wide range of diving activities which include training and many different tours.
