You can go on an offshore fishing charter, go whale watching during the months from June through to November, go surfing on one of the many local beaches or boating and swimming in the calm waters of the Maroochy River estuary.

In the hinterland you will find many attractions like the Blackall Ranges which are only a short drive away. Visit the towns of Montville, Maleny and visit Lady Cairncross Park for a picnic and see the panoramic views over the Glasshouse Mountains or take a bushwalk in the beautiful rainforest there. Australia Zoo at Beerwah is within easy reach of Maroochydore and the Zoo operates a shuttle bus service to collect patrons and return them again in the afternoon. In Mooloolaba you will find Underwater World. This aquarium is built on the banks of the Mooloolah River and is adjoined by a commercial pier development with restaurants and shopping. The Aquarium is fantastic with hundreds of different displays which include touch tanks for the kids.

Beach activities are some of the most popular here. You can go surfing at some of Australia’s best surfing venues or visit the surf clubs. Sailing and jet ski riding are also really popular. Maroochydore beach is a very long beach which means that you can always find a place to yourself or you can join in the fun swimming with everyone else between the flags where the life savers are on duty.
