The Gold Coast is a great place to go whale watching. See the magnificent whale breach. Hear their great tail slap the water. Feel the waves rock your boat. Marvel at their playfulness. Experience one of the fantastic wonders of nature, the Humpback Whale, one of the largest sea living mammals. View these giant creatures as they travel from there home in the Antarctic through the Australian Whale Sanctuary on their way to the warmer waters of Northern Queensland where they mate and give birth before returning homewards again.

There are a number of whale watching charters available from the Gold Coast, with Whales in Paradise being the original company foundered in the Gold Coast, and they are the only whale watch charter that operates right out of the Heart of the Gold Coast. Gold Coast Whale Watching Tours and Brisbane Whale Watching Tours operate between early June and late October. Their Gold Coast and Brisbane whale watching tours have been so successful that they are proud to have a 100% sighting record in previous years.

Good whale watching tour operators obey strict guidelines about how close they can approach the whales so our annual ocean visitors trust us and don’t fear the boats, meaning they often come right alongside to say hello (as whales do) and give onlookers the thrill of a lifetime.

You can expect sightings over 99% of cruises during the calm winter months. Look out for the vapour cloud as the whale expires. We will take special measures to attract the whales to us, so please listen to the informative commentary as your help is required.

The beauty of whale watching on the Gold Coast is that you don't have to venture too far off shore to be right on top of the humpback whales. They generally pass within a kilometre or two of the beach, making it easy to spot them. Most of the whale watch operators run a shuttle service which will pick you up from your Gold Coast accommodation.
