If you are looking for something a bit more educational, you can take the kids to a museum or art gallery. The Southbank parkland is connected to the city by two pedestrian bridges and the parkland have plenty of great activities for kids. There is a monster swimming pool, fireworks displays and lots of hands on attractions.
A day away on Moreton Island is something the kids will love. You can take a tour to the Moreton island lighthouse, swim in the calm waters at Tangalooma resort or feed the dolphins each evening at the Tangalooma jetty. Most places where you can stay will be able to assist you in arranging these tours.
