Hervey Bay Backpackers

Hervey Bay backpacker accommodation is some of the best in Australia. There is a wide range of hostels to choose from and everyone who comes to Hervey bay will want to visit Fraser Island and during the whale watching season from mid July to early November there will be thousands of humpback whales visiting the area and a number of boats offer some fabulous whale watching experiences. On Fraser Island we recommend a number of tour companies who offer a professional and informative tour. The Fraser Island company, Fraser Venture Tours and Kingfisher Bay all offer excellent tours. For whale watching we recommend The Spirit of Hervey bay with its underwater windows, Whalesong cruises, Mikat Charters, Blue Dolphin Charters and Blue Horizon Whale Watch.

In Hervey Bay there are a number of quality backpacker hostels to choose from. We recommend the brand new in 2006 Next Backpackers and the Palace Backpackers. All of these properties are conveniently located and offer a wide range of backpacker accommodation including dorms, singles, twins, doubles and ensuite rooms. All have a tour desk, internet access and most offer self drive Fraser Island tours at a very reasonable rate. You can also visit the Great Barrier Reef from Hervey bay through a direct flight to Lady Elliot Island. Here you will see the best of what the reef is famous for. For the diver, water visibility is rarely less than 20 meters and the island is famous as a destination to see Manta rays. Occasionally, whales are also spotted by divers. This is the southernmost island of the reef and the quality of the coral is among the best to be seen anywhere on the reef. You can do a day trip to the island or stay at the resort and there are tent cabins available at a budget rate. If you are travelling along the Queensland coast, you should also visit our Fraser Island backpackers page and our 1770 backpackers page
