If you are thinking about your next holiday with the kids, then consider Hervey Bay. This is one of the best family holiday destinations on the Queensland coast. Why do I say this? Well because there is so much to see and do that the kids will love and there is so much great family accommodation on offer. Hervey Bay is the ideal place to spend a week or two and relax away from the hustle and bustle of big city life yet be only two hours direct by air from Sydney or a three hour drive north from Brisbane.In addition, holiday specials are often available.
Kids just love to be active and they love anything to do with water and the beach. Mums and dads just love it when the kids are happy and the main activities are so close at hand. Local activities in Hervey Bay include fishing from the Urangan Pier or going to “Wet Side” water park, which is a new $12 million addition to the Hervey Bay Esplanade. Better still for mum and dad, entry is free. The only thing you pay for is the wave pool. The Hervey Bay beach is great for kids. It is north facing and calm water. The beach is protected by a long sand bar and this makes it really popular when the wind blows and the wind surfers and the kite surfers suddenly appear from nowhere.
A lot of the best holiday accommodation is situated on the Esplanade right across the road from the beach, so you will not be far away. The kids will almost certainly want to go whale watching while you are in Hervey Bay, so if you come to the bay between July and November, whale watching trips will be running. Trips to nearby Fraser Island also leave from here. There is also plenty of local places to stay in the Urangan Boat harbour precinct and it is very convenient to stay in this location. You are still only walking distance from the Urangan Pier and the main beach.
