THE KURANDA RAINFOREST

Kuranda is aboriginal for ‘village in the rainforest’, and over the years Kuranda has taken on a distinctive character as a popular visitor destination in its own right.

There are three spectacular ways to visit Kuranda

  • the Kuranda Scenic Railway which each year takes over half a million people to the village
  • the multi-award winning Skyrail Rainforest Cableway and…
  • the winding Kuranda Range Road which is a photographer’s delight with its scenic views.

With an air of adventure, explore the newly constructed walking tracks. Easy trails take you on a gentle walk to the river, discovering some rare flora and fauna on the way.

There are around twelve hundred species of flowering plants, eight hundred of which are rainforest trees. There are also orchids, ginger plants, strangler figs, palms, and an immense variety of climbing plants. At any time of the year, you will wonder at the richness and diversity of the lush foliage.

For those who enjoy a more strenuous bushwalk, the Barron Falls walk takes a little longer, but the view is spectacular.
