A Golf holiday in the Cairns region will be long remembered for the great weather, the Quality of the courses played, the fantastic tropical surroundings and quality resort style holiday destinations. There are a number of courses where you can play and some are a real test of your ability. If you come to Cairns for a golf holiday then you should play in both Cairns, Palm Cove and nearby Port Douglas. All have a choice of fine courses, each with its own special style.
The Cairns city course is a public course of 6115 meters and with full facilities. It is located around 7 kilometers from the center of town towards the west. Water hazards are a feature of this course as the terrain is fairly flat. Half Moon Bay tennis and Golf Club at Yorkeys Knob offers a sand based all weather 18 hole course that features plenty of water hazards and is 5200 meters in length. There are two courses at Palm Cove. The Novotel Rockford resort has a 9 hole par three course which is great to give you a bit of exercise and wont break the bank, while just down the road is the best course in the entire district. The Paradise Palms layout is ranked in the top 25 courses in Australia and comes complete with excellent resort style holiday accommodation. This is a championship course set among the tropical rainforest. It is a par 72 course of 6592 meters.
Port Douglas is a resort town about one hours drive north of Cairns along one of Australia’s most spectacular coastal roads. Far North Queensland is the home of two excellent resort golf courses, both of which are of top standard. The Sheraton Mirage course has in the past been the home of the “skins” game in Australia with players like Jack Nicklaus and Greg Norman both playing here. It is a Peter Thomson designed course and contains six par 3’s, six par 4’s and six par 5’s. Not far away is the Sea Temple holiday spa golf course. This is a fine links style course with excellent facilities and some really challenging holes. It is 6261 meters in length.
In the nearby hinterland, towns like Mossman and Mareeba have public courses that welcome visitors and each has its own special charm. All of these combined, make a Cairns golf holiday a varied and exciting possibility.
